What’s New in 2009 – Textures ??

or… “why doesn’t this work like 2008 ??”

With the “REMOVAL” of COLORS and TEXTURES in 2009, (they are just called APPEARANCES now), there will definitely be some confusion of how to JUST apply TEXTURES like you did in 2008.     Especially if you don’t have a REALVIEW compatible graphics card.
Even if you DO have RealView capabilities, how do you add a thread texture to a rod ?
How do you add a knurled texture to a part, etc. etc.
It can still be done, but it is NOT very obvious out of the box.
Under your installation directory, (usually “C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp\SolidWorks…”)
under the “DATA\IMAGES\” directory, are two folders, “Textures” and “Textures2″.  This is where all the “old” texture  .jpgs are located !
All you need to do is make a NEW path in the APPEARANCES task pane to point to this location. (there is a button for this at the top of the Appearances pane)
Then you can drag and drop TEXTURES using the same new techniques that you can drag and drop Appearances in 2009 !!

I also took some time to “consolidate” those TWO folders into ONE…
